Janggoksa Temple
A Buddhist temple situated on the southern foothills of Chilgapsan Mountain, Janggoksa Temple was originally built under dharma master Chejing in 850 (12th year of King Munseong's reign over Silla) and underwent repair several times over the years.
It contains many exquisite cultural properties such as the Seated Iron Bhaisajyaguru Buddha Statue at Janggoksa Temple (National Treasure No. 58), Buddhist Painting of Janggoksa Temple (National Treasure No. 300), Upper and Lower Daeungjeon Halls of Janggoksa Temple (Treasure No. 162), Vairocana Buddha and Stone Pedestal of Janggoksa Temple (Treasure No. 174), Seated Gilt Bronze Bhaisajyaguru Buddha Of Janggoksa Temple (No. 337), and Seolseondang Hall (Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 273).
Janggoksa Temple is notable for the two upper and lower Daeungjeon halls, which are rarely seen in any other temples, and known for the mantra of the Medicine Buddha, or Bhaiṣajyaguru, which is connected with healing. With a number of valuable cultural assets, the 1,000-year-old temple that receives a constant stream of visitors and Buddhists.
